New crowds. New artwork. Happening live.
WHAT IS IT?
The Digital Culture Fund is a pilot initiative for people who have been working creatively with digital technologies for some time. They might be experienced artists already within the Australia Council's community, already supported by one of our grants or divisions. But we also want to open up to a new breed of practitioner, the digital native who might not typically consider themselves artists or ordinarily approach the Australia Council.
The purpose of this fund is for the Australia Council to support the creation of innovative digital artwork which might happen physically in front of the crowd or be experienced through a technological platform. Either way, we want it to happen live, having been created as a live collaboration, or to be experienced as a live event connecting the maker(s) and crowd(s).
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Digital creativity can harness immediacy between practitioners and/or audiences regardless of physical location. This ‘liveness’ becomes a momentary, shared experience for the practitioners and communities. The digital culture fund wants to explore the notion of 'liveness' as it relates to the digital space, whether technologies are used in the live creation of that experience, or the subsequent live engagement of the audience.
The aim of this program is to enable artists and practitioners to work outside existing practice or environments. Applicants do not need to be formally trained as artists, or be known by the Australia Council, but should be able to demonstrate a history of successful creative technology projects or collaborations. Established organisations are welcome as partners, providing the project is practitioner-led and the work occurs outside of normal activities. International collaborations will be considered if the project is led by an Australian practitioner and the outcomes can be shared equally with an Australian audience.
Projects are expected to include (but are not limited to) installations, performances or artistic games or transmedia experiences. Applicants can be unknown, emerging or established makers, applying as an individual, a collective, or in partnership with organisations.
We hope to see the building of new creative knowledge, process or practice, to see a passion for creative applications of technology where you least expect it, and to be inspired by your ideas.
